    Kate Ellwood

Before coming to Belgium I was a qualified nurse with 25 years practical experience and have a Master of Studies in Primary and Community Care from Cambridge University.  Studying for a Diploma in Antenatal Education from the University of Bedford (UK) kept me busy as we settled into life in Belgium.  I was a Prenatal Teacher (teaching the more traditional NCT style antenatal classes) for the BCT for 5 years.

As a certified KG Hypnobirthing Teacher since August 2020, I bring a wealth of experience in antenatal education to support expectant parents through their hypnobirthing journey.

My KG Hypnobirthing teacher training was accredited by the Royal College of Midwivesin the UK - a mark of quality and professionalism I value.  I receive ongoing support from KG Hypnobirthing,  with study days and talks from some of the leading figures in maternity care and birth workers worldwide.  This ensures my knowledge stays relevant and up to date.

Plus I am the owner of www.pregnantinbelgium.com  Here we provide all the information and resources you need all in one place with clear insights into the Belgian healthcare system, from selecting the ideal place to birth your baby to understanding your rights. We also help to demystify the complexities of Belgian admin around health insurance and social security.

    Emily Gold

It all begins with an idea. New York Native Emily Gold is a yoga therapist and teacher, doula and public health specialist residing in Brussels Belgium. She has been practicing yoga since 2003 and after completing her university degree in 2006 she travelled to Thailand where she first discovered the joys of meditation. Faced with seizures from a benign brain tumor in 2008, Emily first learned of the healing power of yoga, turning to her regular practice as a relief for the physical and mental pain she was experiencing. This healing path led her to pursue yoga teacher training, beginning in 2013 and she became a yoga therapist in 2017.

Emily is trained in a variety of yogic modalities including Hatha, Yin, Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga and Womb Yoga. She weaves these modalities to create practices and teachings that are gentle and accessible, focusing on acceptance, growth and healing. Emily has practiced yoga on 4 continents and truly believes that there is a yoga practice out there for everyone.

As a trained doula she is committed to working with women to help them feel safe, healthy and empowered during their pregnancy, birth and postnatal period.

When not on her mat Emily can be found attending a birth, reading, knitting or spending time with her husband, young son and daughter and their adopted Ethiopian street dog, Puddles.

    Jane Piot

I am an experienced birth doula and certified breastfeeding specialist and an accredited member of the Association francophone des doulas de Belgique.  I have accompanied more than 50 births and have supported countless couples with antenatal preparation sessions including specific sessions on breastfeeding preparation. I believe that all women deserve to be nurtured and supported throughout pregnancy and birth, and their choices respected at all times. My aim is to help women to realise the unique power they have within themselves to birth their babies the way they choose to.  I support couples through late-stage pregnancy, labour and birth and in initiating and maintaining breastfeeding whatever their feeding goals may be. My approach blends evidence-based knowledge with a deep respect for each family’s unique needs and preferences. Many of my clients have been English or French speaking expats with no family living close by and it has made a huge difference to them to have built up a relationship with me prior to giving birth and to have a trusted person by their side who almost feels like family.

I am a British-born mother of two teenage boys, married to a Belgian. I have a background in public health and have lived and worked in the UK, France, Switzerland, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Senegal, Laos and now Brussels.  I speak English, French, very rusty Kiswahili and basic level Lao.
